Within and Without
Two views are not enough to show the multiple images that I found in this small piece of soapstone.
Art of Healing - 3 (recovery)
Included as part of the Seeds exhibition at the Affinity Gallery in Saskatoon, this is a small soapstone carving that is component of a triptych that chronicles stages of recovery. To my eye, a phoenix revealed itself very early in the carving process. Now as I look at the piece from various angles and under various light conditions, I can find up to 8 different animals represented. Such is the joy of working with stone.
Art of Healing - 2 (severance)
Between dis-ability and wellness is a period of collapse and resignation. Sometimes we need to brutally cut ourselves free in order to rebuild.
Art of Healing - 1 (weighting)
The subtitle of this piece keeps evolving as I try to name a disability brought on by a toxic professional environment. It has been called the past, the burden, the weight, and (sur)render. Nothing has stuck yet.
